A Thermal Power Plant with capacity of 405 MW was planned in 3 units, each with capacity of 135 MW and construction of the first unit, for which a production license and EIA report was obtained, began in 2006 as the first phase, and electrical production began in May 2009. Construction of 2 x 135 MW units is still ongoing.
Asphaltite is the main fuel used in the power plant. An investment of 450 million USD was planned in the region under the project. 150 million USD of this investment has been realized until today and a total of 500 persons are employed.
Circulating fluidized bed boiler technology, which has been widely used in the world for many years and considered to be one of the clean coal technologies, is used in the power plant, and upon complete commissioning of the power plant, 1000 persons will be directly employed. This investment will be one of the largest investments in the region, following government investments.
